"in the works of nature, the deepest discoveries show the greatest excellencies." - Robert Hooke, Micrographia (1665)
Microscopes have shaped the modern world. Developments in the microscope have had profound effects on how we understand the world around us. As telescopes offered a window into the heavens, the microscope allowed philosophers the ability to observe the world beneath them.

The aim of this website is to offer insight into the cultural history of the microscope. This site will explore, and examine how the microscope has shifted more than just our understanding of science, and the natural world.
